Just got back from a relaxing week of vacation at the beach, and a neat little fact came across my feed reader yesterday: This past Sunday was the last football-less Sunday until next year.

Football season is back, y’all.

The Saints and Cardinals will kick off the preseason with the annual Hall of Fame game this Sunday from Canton, Ohio. We know that you only will watch the first five minutes or so of that game, and only because it’s football. Unless you are a Saints’ or Cardinals’ fan, there really isn’t much to see after the starters depart the field.

Still, it’s live football. And there always is something to watch for from a fantasy football perspective, which is why it now is time to start ramping up our coverage of the 2012 season. Let’s start by recapping some of the things we’ve already started here this summer:

• Our best fantasy football team name contest for 2012 is underway. There have been a good number of submissions already and they continue to roll in on a daily basis. Get your best team name in that list if you want to win some great prizes.
• Tim Tebow gained some weight this offseason. What does that mean for Shonn Greene?
• There’s still plenty of time to join leagues and conduct fantasy drafts. In fact, most serious leagues don’t draft until late August or early September. If you are going to host a league with friends, family or co-workers this year, consider one of these five best fantasy football league hosting sites.
• Two more stories worth checking in and filing away for later use: Notable contract-year players and running backs 29 and older. Those can come in handy on draft day when looking for a steal or trying to avoid a bust.
