There are waiver wire adds, and then there are deep sleeper waiver wire adds. If you play in a 14- or 16-team league, consider adding some of these guys this week.
Alex Green, RB, Packers: All it is going to take for Green to get more work in the Green Back backfield are injuries to James Starks and Ryan Grant. It took injuries to several players for Starks to get his chance last year, so it is not out of the question. Plus, Green already is getting some playing time with the starters.
Charlie Whitehurst, QB, Seahawks: Tarvaris Jackson got injured in Week 5 and looks like he could miss some time. Whitehurst battled Jackson for the starting job in training camp and originally acquired by Seattle in the hope that he could become the team’s starting quarterback one day. There are some decent options here for Whitehurst in the passing game (Sidney Rice, Doug Baldwin).
Jake Ballard, TE, Giants: Eli Manning loved throwing to Kevin Boss. So why not Ballard? He was a little banged up early in the year but appears to be hitting his stride right now. And if the early returns are any indication of the future, the Giants are going to throw the ball a ton this year.
Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, Falcons: If Michael Turner got hurt, Jason Snelling would be next in line to get the bulk of the carries. But Turner’s absence also would provide an opportunity for Rodgers to get more looks. The Falcons are trying a pass-happy offense this year, too, which only helps Rodgers’ value.
Greg Little, WR, Browns: Little was promoted to the starting lineup following the Browns’ bye, so I expect him to make a big splash in his first game as a starter. He is coming off a decent effort going into the bye (albeit in a game where Colt McCoy attempted 60+ passes).
Here are today’s great reads:
- Just a friendly reminder to place your waiver claim for Tim Tebow this week. If he is going to start for the Broncos, he is going to fill up the stat sheet. Also in the AFC West, Jackie Battle appears to have taken over the starting job vacated by Jamaal Charles. Could be nice for your fantasy bench. [Roto Arcade]
- Maybe Ben Roethlisberger should play with a hurt foot more often. Big Ben threw five touchdowns to awaken the Steelers’ offensive production. [SI.com]
- Good notes here on all the week 5 action from a fantasy football perspective. If you do not have the RedZone channel or NFL Sunday Ticket, reading run-downs like this is a good way to get a feel for what was happening in all the games you did not see on Sunday. [National Football Post]
