While desperate 1-2 or 0-3 fantasy owners hit the waiver wire this week for chumps like Torrey Smith and Victor Cruz (both overrated), savvy owners sitting pretty at 2-1 or 3-0 can sit back and think long term.
Save that waiver priority for more important pickups. And if you decide to add/drop after waivers are processed, consider some of these long-term options:
Kendall Hunter, RB, 49ers: Frank Gore tweaked his ankle against the Bengals and was generally ineffective before that. Hunter came in and provided the game-winning touchdown run for San Francisco. He is earning more playing time going forward.
Stevan Ridley, RB, Patriots: Interesting that Ridley got more work in the run game yesterday than was expected by just about everyone, particularly in a close game. Clearly, the Pats have little confidence in BenJarvus Green-Ellis at this point. Kind of reminds me of the Pierre Thomas situation in New Orleans the last few years.
Titus Young, WR, Lions: Two solid below-the-radar fantasy efforts in back-to-back weeks. Young is creeping up the fantasy rankings and could be due for an explosion soon, especially in this pass-happy offense.
Donald Jones, WR, Bills: I think Buffalo’s offense has proven to be effective in the pass game, and I think the Bills will play in a number of shoot-outs this season like their first three games. I was not sold on this offense in the preseason, but now that I have seen it in action I think they clearly can support three fantasy football wide receivers most weeks.
Lance Ball, RB, Broncos: Quietly played the backup position to Willis McGahee on Sunday. Catches the ball well, could get an opportunity if Knowshon Moreno stays banged up and McGahee starts to break down. Think long term.
Here are today’s great reads:
- More on Torrey Smith in Week 3 Revelations. The guy could not catch a cold during the preseason, and all of a sudden he explodes for three touchdowns in Week 3. Did not catch a pass the first two weeks. Certainly took advantage of his opportunity to start with Lee Evans out. But still, buyer beware here. [National Football Post]
- Feel really, really bad for all those Kenny Britt owners out there (myself included). Especially those who had Jamaal Charles as well. And maybe even a few had Peyton Manning! More fantasy football related thoughts, including the above mentioned players. [Fantasy Douche]
- One more time for Torrey Smith. Get used to hearing that name this week. He likely will be the No. 1 player off your waiver wire. Hopefully not to your team. One guy to look for who is on this list, however, is Lance Moore. If someone cut him too early, get him now. PPR monster waiting to happen. [Roto Arcade]
