Live, American football was on television last night. That, in itself, is newsworthy enough for football fans.
Football is back!
This would not be a fantasy football blog if I did not have something to say about the action between the Bengals and Cowboys last night. And there was plenty of interesting info for fantasy owners to digest on both sides of the football.
The Cowboys
- Perhaps the most important development from a fantasy perspective during the course of this game came at the end of the Cowboys’ first drive. Dallas made it all the way to the Bengals’ five-yard line and Felix Jones got the goal-line carry … and fumbled into the endzone. It was recovered by Cincinnati but negated by a penalty. Still, that was bad news for Jones’ chance to steal important, goal-line touches from Marion Barber.
- I know it was preseason, but Roy Williams did not look awful. He caught a couple of passes from Tony Romo on the first drive, including a long third-down reception. Dez Bryant’s injury could not have come at a worse time.
The Bengals
- Terrell Owens got a lot of targets early from Carson Palmer. Perhaps these two are just trying to establish some chemistry before the start of the regular season, or perhaps there is a little more to this? It probably was nothing, but fantasy owners should continue watching this throughout the preseason.
- Bernard Scott and Cedric Benson both looked shifty and fresh. Could be a dynamic duo this season. I expect to see more of Scott this year than we saw last season. In deep leagues, he could be a steal late in drafts.
