MMR, fantasy football, NFL, injuries, player updatesLook, I am just not going to go through this again.

It was fun the first time, Brett. Remember that, a few years ago?

The Packers did not want you anymore. You thought you were going to retire. So they held onto your rights, you know just in case you changed your mind, while handing the job to Aaron Rodgers.

But then you wanted to come back. The Pack were having none of it. Eventually, you forced a trade to the Jets and got to play with them.

That drama was kind of fun. Exciting. Tense.

This? Kinda dumb.

We all know you are coming back to play this year. Your team came within a game — five turnovers, really — of playing in the Super Bowl last year. You had arguably the best season of your career in 2009. And now you get to (A) play the season opener on prime time national television against the team that beat you in the NFC Championship and (B) stick it to the Packers two more times this year.

We know you are coming back.

Brett Favre [QB, Vikings]

From Shutdown Corner:

Favre’s been practicing with a high school team in Mississippi, because that’s what you do when you’re like a little kid and you just like to have fun out there. According to a very brief AP article on the subject, the recently repaired ankle looks just fine.

He is coming back. Let us all just cut the crap and get down to brass tax: Favre will suit up this season for the Vikings.

No need to send poor Rachel Nichols to camp on Favre’s front lawn in Hattiesburg, Mississsippi, this summer. No. 4 might not participate in training camp — he has earned that much — but he will suit up against New Orleans in the season opener.

And it sounds like his body is in pretty good shape to make that return to football this season.

Anthony Gonzalez [WR, Colts]

From FFToolBox:

Anthony said during OTAs it was his understanding that he would get a chance to compete for the outside receiver opposite Wayne, the spot he earned last training camp.

AGonzo has a steep, steep hill to climb.

After he went down early in the 2009 season, youngsters Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie really made names for themselves. Both played well, earned respect from Peyton Manning, got a lot of looks and made their way into the hearts of fantasy owners.

Gonzo will have to not only play better than both of these guys in camp and preseason, but prove to the coaching staff that he is fully healthy again. At least it sounds like he is going to get that chance.

Steve Smith [WR, Panthers]

From ProFootballTalk:

According to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, the Panthers are targeting their preseason finale for Smith to return to game action.  La Canfora reports Smith is “making good strides” in his recovery, and that a Week One “return [is] looking good” for the four-time Pro Bowler.

More than likely, Smith will not even play that last preseason game. Why risk another injury to the aging receiver who — let’s be honest — is the Panthers’ receiving game.

Fantasy owners with drafts next month have a little more time to watch his progress. Meanwhile, Smith’s average draft position has taken a slight hit of late.

Leon Washington [RB, Seahawks]

From RotoWorld:

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll tweeted Wednesday that he expects Leon Washington (compound leg fracture) to “be practicing in camp.”

Washington is going to play in a time-share again this season, which probably works out best for him coming off such a gruesome injury.

The question fantasy owners want answered is this: Which other running back will emerge to become Washington’s partner-in-crime? Odds are good that Justin Forsett will be that guy, but he does have to compete with Julius Jones and Quinton Ganther for that spot.

The MMR will continue to run every Monday morning as scheduled during the regular season. If you have an injury update or want an update on a certain player, please leave a note in the comments.
