Things are a lot slower around these parts now that the regular season is over.

Our posting schedule has slowed down, our traffic has slowed down and our fantasy football seasons have slowed down stopped (unless you play in a keeper/dynasty league, of course). And that is why this week’s injury update is a day late.

But not a dollar short. Plenty of significant news from week 17, including a crushing knee injury for the New England Patriots.

Wes Welker [WR, Patriots]

From ProFootballTalk:

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that preliminary tests show Welker having a torn ACL and torn MCL. He is scheduled to undergo more testing on Monday, and until an MRI confirms the diagnosis Welker can hold out hope that it’s not that serious, but at the moment things look grim.

Football fans, meet Julian Edelman.

While the Patriots have not officially divulged the extent of Welker’s injury just yet — big surprise there — many are reporting that Welker tore at least one ligament in his knee and will miss almost all of the Patriots’ offseason training programs. His status for the start of next season is very much in doubt.

Meanwhile, Edelman will get a lot of press this week as Welker’s replacement.

Tom Brady [QB, Patriots]

From ProFootballTalk:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed the severity of the finger injury suffered a month ago, saying Brady has been playing through a broken index finger on his throwing hand.

The finger injury reportedly is bothering Brady more than his broken ribs, which were originally suffered in the preseason.  Brady left the locker room Sunday before speaking to the media, which we can’t remember ever happening before.

Another Patriot with an injury, though Brady’s appear far less serious. At least according to the man in charge, Bill Belichick.

Brady apparently has been playing with ailments for much of the season and there is little concern that he will miss any time at all during the playoffs. So unless he gets knocked out of a game, expect him to take every snap for the Pats this postseason.

Pierre Thomas [RB, Saints]

From RotoWorld:

Pierre Thomas revealed Monday that he has three fractured ribs, but plans to play through the injury in the postseason.

Thomas has a couple of weeks to heal before the Saints first playoff game — three weeks in total, counting week 17 of the regular season — and should be healthy enough to participate when the Saints take the field again.

Nothing really will be known about his status for next weekend until the Saints hit the practice field again next week.

Chad OchoCinco [WR, Bengals]

From RotoWorld:

Chad Ochocinco said on Twitter that his MRI “went well” on Monday after he tweaked his knee in Sunday night’s loss.

A big time scare for the Bengals right before tanking at New York on Sunday night, but OchoCinco sounds positive and will get a second shot at Darrelle Revis this weekend. It should be one heck of a storyline this week/weekend.

Anquan Boldin [WR, Cardinals]

From ProFootballTalk:

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Boldin has a sore ankle and knee but should be OK.

Boldin apparently had been seen on crutches Monday and could be in jeopardy for this weekend’s rematch with the Packers. That would not be good news for Arizona, although the team did not show much in the week 17 outing.

Keep a close eye on his practice status at the end of this week for more.

Jimmy Clausen [QB, Notre Dame]

From RotoWorld:

Jimmy Clausen played his final season at Notre Dame through torn toe ligaments and will have surgery to repair them on Tuesday. He’ll miss the next 2-3 months and February’s Scouting Combine.

The 2010 rookie quarterback class, which includes Clausen, is looking fairly deep at first glance. Not working out will do little damage to Clausen’s stock, as NFL teams have seen plenty enough out of the young QB during his prolific season at Notre Dame in 2009.

If only Notre Dame had a defense …

Matthew Stafford [QB, Lions]

From ProFootballTalk:

But Stafford did pay Andrews a visit this week, and Andrews performed a minor procedure on Stafford’s right knee that the Detroit News reports was successful.

Good news for Stafford, who should be completely healthy by the time training camp rolls around next summer.

It was an up-and-down season for the young QB, but Stafford showed a lot of heart, determination and promise in his first season. The future looks bright for the kid and the rest of the Detroit offense as well, as long as they can stay healthy.
