MMR, fantasy football, NFL, injuries, player updatesMy sincerest apologies for the tardiness of today’s MMR. I have spent the last few days travelling around the Gulf South and have been in and out of internet access.

And let me tell you how much that sucks during the fantasy playoffs.

Had three teams playing yesterday and two friends on speed dial in case I needed to make any last-minute roster changes. All of my players were good-to-go for the most part, but keeping up with my scores throughout the day yesterday was a pain.

As it turns out, all three of those teams lost just one win away from the championship. Of the five teams I had in the playoffs, only one still has a shot to win a title this year.

Bummer.

Onto the injuries!

Reggie Bush [RB, Saints]

From ProFootballTalk:

“I expect him to work this week,” Payton said in remarks distributed by the team.  “It wasn’t anything real severe.  We’ll see on Wednesday.”

Bush had been playing well in recent weeks and even ripped off a nice run against the Cowboys early in the game on Saturday night. But go figure, he got hurt just as he started to play well.

Fantasy owners will not be able to comfortably rely on Bush for fantasy championships this weekend. He is a risky flex or RB3 play at best.

Percy Harvin [WR, Vikings]

From ProFootballTalk:

But NBC’s Andrea Kremer also points out that Harvin learned this week that he has two bulging disks in his neck.  He’ll be visiting the Mayo Clinic on Tuesday with a team doctor for further evaluation.

Poor Harvin. Make sure to click the link above to read about all his ailments, which include more than what is mentioned above.

For someone so talented, Harvin is equally as troubled off the field. Hopefully his health can get out of his way so that Harvin can have a successful, long NFL career.

Michael Turner [RB, Falcons]

From ProFootballTalk:

Turner re-aggravated his ankle injury on his first carry when New York Jets safety Jim Leonhard hit Turner’s ankle with his helmet. After the game, Turner was left wondering whether Leonhard did it intentionally.

Another player who was hard to trust this weekend, though hard to bench with his pedigree. Hopefully Turner owners were able to avoid using him this past weekend.

Now that the Falcons are out of the playoff picture, Turner could get shut down for the year to avoid further injury. Fantasy owners should have prepared for that possibility weeks ago when he originally went down.

Steven Jackson [RB, Rams]

From ProFootballTalk:

But no matter how often Jackson suffers through losses in which his teammates don’t play as well as he does, Jackson said after the game that he’s not going to stop playing hard every week — even though he has been plagued by a back injury and, more recently, the flu.

Is there a tougher running back in the league than Jackson?

He plays for a losing team starting a third-string, rookie quarterback and continues to fight for every yard. SJax is a fantasy player all fantasy owners can appreciate and will be a first-round pick in most leagues again next season.

Hopefully St. Louis can get him some help.

DeAngelo Williams [RB, Panthers]

From ProFootballTalk:

Carolina’s lead back hurt his ankle in the first half against the Vikings.  He tested his ankle after halftime, but has been seen in the second half sitting on the bench with his parka on.  It does not appear like Williams will return.

DeWill did not return to the game last night but it did not hurt the Panthers at all. Jonathan Stewart scored twice as the Panthers steam-rolled the Vikings in the fourth quarter.

This could have big-time impact for fantasy championships this weekend. If Williams is out, Stewart might be a great play against the Giants.

Matthew Stafford [QB, Lions]

From ProFootballTalk:

With Matthew Stafford expected to miss another week, he may at least get to start a few games in the present.  Stanton replaced Daunte Culpepper to open the second half of Detroit’s loss to Arizona and the offense quickly turned around.

I doubt any teams playing this weekend are rolling with any Detroit starting quarterback the last few weeks. This update is for dynasty owners of Stafford only.

The Lions offense should be much better next season with all of its young stars — Stafford, Kevin Smith, Calvin Johnson and Brandon Pettigrew — healthy again.

The MMR will continue to run every Monday morning as scheduled during the regular season. If you have an injury update or want an update on a certain player, please leave a note in the comments.
