MMR, fantasy football, NFL, injuries, player updatesObviously not the morning and there are a ton of injuries to get to this week, so no time for formal introductions.

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend and fantasy weekend. Enjoy Monday Night Football between the Saints and the Patriots tonight.

Who Dat?!?

Getting right into this week’s MMR …

Michael Turner [RB, Falcons]

From RotoWorld:

“He has not been ruled out of the ball game,” is all Smith said Turner’s teammates don’t expect him to play against the Eagles, and neither do we.

Turner owners need to have Jason Snelling and/or Jerious Norwood at the ready again this weekend.

Norwood is likely to be a pretty popular waiver wire addition this week in most leagues. He returned from an injury of his own to face the Buccaneers in a limited fashion, scoring a touchdown via the passing game in the contest.

If I had to pick one of these guys to start next weekend, it would be Norwood right now.

Matt Ryan [QB, Falcons]

From ProFootballTalk:

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that Ryan will miss Sunday’s game against Mike Vick and the Eagles due to a turf toe injury suffered against the Buccaneers.

Chris Redman is the appropriate add for those in deep leagues or those in leagues which start two quarterbacks every week.

This, obviously, is no consolation for Ryan owners. But it gives good reason to finally bench the struggling fantasy quarterback. It has mostly been a disappointing second season for the young QB.

Brent Celek [TE, Eagles]

From ProFootballTalk:

The Associated Press reports that Celek told teammate Jeremy Maclin that he tore “a few ligaments in my hand.”

No word yet on whether or not that means Celek would miss any time, but chances are pretty good he misses at least some practice.

Marques Colston tore ligaments in his hand last season and missed several weeks. Not to say the two injuries are the same, but they are of a similar nature. Stay tuned and perhaps pick up a tight end off the waiver as insurance.

Ben Roethlisberger [QB, Steelers]

From ProFootballTalk:

We’re told that the decision to go with Dennis Dixon instead of Roethlisberger came early in the week, and that it came directly from coach Mike Tomlin.  It wasn’t a benching in the classic sense; as we hear it, Tomlin feared that Roethlisberger — who in Tomlin’s estimation holds the ball way too long — would take another blow to the head against a tenacious Ravens defense, which surely would have treated that white seven in the yellow stripe of Ben’s helmet like the red dot in the middle of a dart board.

Sounds like the Pittsburgh locker room is starting to fall apart.

The Steelers lost a heartbreaker in overtime due in large part to an interception thrown by backup quarterback Dennis Dixon. It was a game the Steelers maybe could have won with Big Ben at the helm.

This team is desperate now for a win after two straight losses. Expect to see Ben back in the starting lineup this weekend.

DeSean Jackson [WR, Eagles]

From RotoWorld:

Reid said that Jackson will be evaluated over the next couple of days. The coach did not rule his best wide receiver out for Week 13, but admitted that the team will be as cautious as they come.

If any team has reason to be careful with concussions, it is the Eagles.

After bringing Brian Westbrook back from a concussion just two weeks after it initially happened, he suffered another concussion and is out for at least another two weeks. If Jackson has any ill effects from this head injury, he will not play this weekend.

Kurt Warner [QB, Cardinals]

From RotoWorld:

Whisenhunt considers Warner “day to day,” and says he’ll know more on Wednesday. Warner’s vision problems need to clear up before he gets the nod. Medical tests have revealed no lingering affects from his concussion.

Another concussion, another missed game.

Warner sounded overly optimistic about his chances to play yesterday all of last week, but alas Matt Leinart got the start — and nearly got the win.

Warner likely will sound optimistic again this week and with good reason — he probably will play this Sunday.

Brandon Pettigrew [TE, Lions]

From ProFootballTalk:

Pettigrew, the team announced, will require season-ending surgery.

Though the specific nature of the knee injury wasn’t disclosed, it’s apparently a torn ACL.

Pettigrew was having a great season as far as rookie tight ends go this year. To get hurt just when he was starting to find his groove is a little disheartening.

He should be back in time for training camp next summer to continue working with Matthew Stafford and rest of the youth movement on offense in Detroit.

Jason Campbell [QB, Redskins]

From RotoWorld:

It isn’t yet known if Campbell suffered a concussion, but he did say his left arm went numb for a little bit. He stayed down for a little looking dazed before walking off the field under his own power. With these symptoms, Campbell’s status for Week 13 is clearly in doubt.

Campbell had strung together a couple of nice fantasy starts and yesterday was no different, totaling three touchdowns in the loss to Philadelphia.

But this reeks of a head injury and if the “c” word is mentioned — like it is above — then there could be missed action for Campbell on the horizon. He would have made a nice spot start this week for those without Big Ben or Warner.

Jake Delhomme [QB, Panthers]

From ProFootballTalk:

Delhomme suffered a broken right finger late in Sunday’s 17-6 to the Jets; Carolina’s starter threw three of his four interceptions in the first half.  It was Delhomme’s third game this year that he’s thrown at least three picks.

Delhomme threw most of his interceptions before hurting his finger, so that was no excuse for his poor play — again — against the Jets.

Chances are good that many in Carolina nation are hoping to see Matt Moore behind center this weekend even though he offers little hope for victory. Changes are coming to Charlotte this offseason and it could start at quarterback.

Chris Cooley [TE, Redskins]

From ProFootballTalk:

The Redskins placed Cooley on injured reserve Monday, a move that was expected comments made by Cooley a week ago.

The medical prognosis after Cooley’s ankle injury went from “out for the season” to returning in “as soon as four weeks” and now back to out for the season again.

Cooley now is safe to drop for all owners playing in redraft and/or shallow keeper leagues. Fred Davis, if not owned, is the appropriate add.

Clinton Portis [RB, Redskins]

From ProFootballTalk:

Zorn also said that Clinton Portis won’t play in Week Thirteen aainst New Orleans.  He is headed to Pittsburgh to be examined by concussion specialists.

It is getting close to the time when fantasy owners can cut ties with Portis. It just is not that simple yet. If the Redskins shut him down for the season after his evaluation next week, fantasy owners can finally do so without remorse.

Until then, however, best to keep Portis on the bench if possible.

The MMR will continue to run every Monday morning as scheduled during the regular season. If you have an injury update or want an update on a certain player, please leave a note in the comments.
