After a flurry of off-the-field extracurricular activity got Larry Johnson suspended a few weeks ago, the Chiefs formally cut ties with the once-dominating running back yesterday.
Thanks for the memories, LJ.
I never owned Johnson in a competitive league as far as I can remember, but do have a fond memory of him due to his dominating stretch run of the 2004 season. Johnson got the call to start following a Priest Holmes’ injury and turned in five consecutive 20+ fantasy point weeks to finish the season.
Needless to say, I was not the Johnson owner and ended up losing near the end of that season as I watched the Johnson owner — Marc, who also writes here, by the way — win the fantasy championship.
Back to yesterday’s news: With Johnson out of the way, Jamaal Charles now is the undisputed starting running back in Kansas City. The sledding is tough behind that make-shift offensive line but he should get plenty of volume going forward.
In dynasty or deep keeper leagues, Kolby Smith is a person of interest as Charles’ back-up.
Here are today’s great reads:
- If you have not started planning for the fantasy playoffs, now would be a good time to take a look at some scenarios. [FanHouse]
- Tony Romo and the Cowboys went on the road and got a big division win in Philadelphia. Win Romo. [Deadspin]
- Fantasy football revelations from each of the games played last weekend. I still think Tampa Bay should wear those throwbacks more often. [SI.com]
- Dallas Clark absolutely dominated for point-per-reception owners this week: 14 catches on 16 targets. More amazingly perhaps, he had 11 catches at halftime. [Sports Data Hub]
- It does not sound like Michael Vick will be back in Philadelphia next season. Possible destination: Buffalo? [Shutdown Corner]

My boy Brandon Marshall didn’t do too bad in PPR leagues either, huh?
However, it didn’t stop the soul-exchange that seems to have gone on between the Broncos and Titans since their week 7 bye week. The Steelers look tough.
