Matt Forte. Steve Slaton. Chris Johnson. Kevin Smith. Jonathan Stewart.

Last season’s rookie class was boss.

Even the names not on the list above, which are the five players who finished top-25 among running backs in most leagues, have lots of potential: Darren McFadden, Rashard Mendenhall, Tim Hightower, Ray Rice, Felix Jones and Jamaal Charles to name a few. One heck of an infusion of talent to the fantasy football running back pool.

So how will this year’s rookie class of running backs fare?

Donald Brown, Beanie Wells, Shonn Greene, Knowshon Moreno and LeSean McCoy are going to be compared and contrasted to the great class of 2008 all season. It is going to be tough for all of these guys to replicate what last year’s rookies did. Five of these guys cracking this season’s top 25? Highly doubtful.

Nothing against the talent in the 2009 class, but last year’s class was a special one that comes around only so often.
