The Home Run Derby is tonight.
Yawn.
Tell you what, this weekend was pretty miserable from a sports standpoint. Almost nothing going on save baseball. I enjoy playing fantasy baseball, sure, but watching it? Thanks, but no thanks.
Nothing captures the vigilance of fans quite like football. Which is why, instead of watching baseball or anything else this weekend, I spent the majority of my time playing Tecmo Super Bowl.
What does it say, exactly, about baseball when I spend my time playing a football video game from the early 1990s? Boring could be the right word. Meaningless often fits if you do not follow a contending team. Dull, too, perhaps.
I promise my bagging on baseball will end soon enough. In just a few weeks, football training camps will open. And that will be the end of my baseball rants until … well … next summer.
Kevin Jones [RB, Bears]
From RotoWorld:
Jones is now 19 months removed from ACL surgery, and running backs coach Tim Spencer says he’s back to where he was before the injury. It will be hard to take Matt Forte off the field, but the Bears are adamant that Jones will play a bigger role this year in a “1-2 punch.”
Hard to believe anyone could cut significantly into Matt Forte’s playing time after last season. But there is a chance another back could help spell Forte and keep him from being overworked.
Chances are Jones will be tried in this role. But year after year, Jones’ body finds a way to break down. If the Bears ease him into a role, perhaps he could make it to the end of the season. However, as it stands right now, I would not expect Jones to have a significant impact on Forte’s fantasy value.
Chase Coffman [TE, Bengals]
From RotoWorld:
Bengals rookie TE Chase Coffman says he’s “very close to being 100 percent” recovered from his senior-year foot fracture.
Good news for the Bengals offense. Finally, a pass-catching tight end for Carson Palmer.
The Bengals could be a sleeper offense this season. With a healthy Palmer back in the fold, Cincinnati might light up the scoreboard once again. That makes Chad Johnson, Laveranues Coles, Chris Henry and Coffman all worthy of a look by fantasy owners this draft season. Heck, even Cedric Benson deserves a little more respect.
Not too much yet, though.
The MMR will continue to run every Monday morning as scheduled during the offseason. If you have an injury update or want an update on a certain player, please leave a note in the comments.

As far as the home run derby goes, they should let the players use Aluminum bats. The people watching just want to see bombs, so why not let these guys tee off.
