Overall, Yahoo! has a pretty robust and highly popular fantasy sports service. And in the past, if you ran all of your fantasy leagues on Yahoo!, it made sense to fork over $10 to get live scoring in all of those leagues.

No longer, my friends.

Apparently Yahoo! plans to offer free live scoring for fantasy football starting this season. The following excerpt is from an email recently received by a Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football customer:

This is a message to inform you that we are no longer charging a fee for StatTracker, our live scoring application for Fantasy Football. Our records indicate that you have already purchased a Plus League for the 2009 season.

This eliminates one of the only drawbacks to the fantasy football service provided by Yahoo! in the past and should lead to more fantasy players sticking with and choosing the popular provider over some of the alternatives. The advantage a smaller provider, like FleaFlicker, had over Yahoo! is now a thing of the past.

Now if only Yahoo! would provide more helmet options as team logos.
