MMRHard to believe June is almost over already. Seems like the best part of the year just started.

Summer technically commenced yesterday, but usually once May rolls around the summer festivities begin in earnest. Bar-B-Ques, the pool, the beach, movies … you name it. Love this time of year.

And the best part of summer? Football. We now are just about a month away from the start of serious football action in the form of training camps.

That means more fantasy football maintenance across the board. Find a great online league hosting site, do more more drafts, research bye weeks and come up with clever team names. These are just a few of the steps that can be taken by fantasy owners now to ensure victory later this season.

Injury updates — also very important for fantasy owners — after the jump.

Brandon Marshall [WR, Broncos]

From ProFootballTalk:

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Marshall complained last season on multiple occasions about the hip injury.  After checking the situation out, doctors told him that he was fine, and that he could play through the discomfort.

Translation?  “Rub some dirt on it, and quit being a wuss.”

Eventually, Marshall took advantage of his collectively-bargained right to a second opinion.  A real problem was found, and Marshall had surgery.

Marshall was able to play through the hip injury last season, putting his toughness on full display.

Now that he has had surgery to repair the hip, it should start feeling better this season. The hip did not seem to hamper Marshall too much, however, but it is nice to know he should be fully healthy to start this season.

Brett Favre [QB, Free Agent]

From RotoWorld:

Favre noted that Friday will be four weeks since his arthroscopic surgery, but he’s still feeling pain on some throws. While he threw the ball “OK,” he said he’s not to point where he’s NFL-ready.

Clearly on his way back to the NFL, NFL fans can expect Favre to be in training camp when it begins next month.

Personally, I like the move. Talk about a pair of extremely interesting games when the Vikings and Packers clash this year. Maybe the NFL can draw John Madden out of retirement for those two games.

Jonathan Stewart [RB, Panthers]

From ProFootballTalk:

However, Stewart expressed confidence that the Achilles problem, which stemmed from the toe injury that hampered him during the offseason a year ago, should be nearly 100 percent by training camp, according to Steve Reed of CarolinaGrowl.com.

It has been one thing after another for Stewart following the foot injury he suffered prior to the start of his NFL career. But he played through it — and did so well, for the most part — during his rookie season and is expected to again contribute substantially to the Panthers offense.

No worries here for now, at least until training camp begins.

Sinorice Moss [WR, Giants]

From ProFootballTalk:

One day after New York Giants wide receiver Sinorice Moss stole the show with a series of highlight catches, that spotlight has been cut off by a strained hamstring.

Pretty typical injury for this time of year.

In about a month when training camps open across the country, expect to see plenty of hamstring strains in the news. Most of the time it is a non-issue.

The MMR will continue to run every Monday morning as scheduled during the offseason. If you have an injury update or want an update on a certain player, please leave a note in the comments.
