Now that both of the rookie drafts in my dynasty leagues are underway, I thought it would be a good time to rehash those early rookie rankings posted after the conclusion of the NFL Draft.
A few things have changed since then. First, most of the post-draft hype has worn off. A guy like Jeremy Maclin, who had a surge in hype on draft day, is coming back down to earth — even though he did not move in my rankings. Where exactly will he fit in on the Philly offense? Is he too much like DeSean Jackson to make a legitimate impact during the next few seasons?
A few others have slowly crawled up the charts. Tight end Travis Beckum appears to be one of the better values at his position. He will be a reliable pass-catcher for Eli Manning over the middle of the field and Kevin Boss is more of a blocker than threat in the passing game. Shonn Greene has not overtaken any of the top three – Beanie Wells, Knowshon Moreno and Donald Brown – but I think confidence in him is improving with the end of the Thomas Jones era in sight.
Not much has changed on the quarterback front. Matt Stafford and Mark Sanchez remain the front-runners in a relatively shallow class. Pat White has overtaken Josh Freeman in response to the Dolphins claim that they will give him a shot to win the quarterback job down the road. Add that in with the multitude of opportunities he should get this season in the team’s Wildcat formation and that gives White enough of a bump to surpass Freeman.
Freeman, meanwhile, appears to be on the slow track to the starting job in Tampa.

Nice article. Our Qb rankings are almost the same. I have Shonn Greene a bit lower on the running backs because I just don’t see him being that great of a back, but I am in the minority there. Great job moving Maclin down and bringing Percy up. I am a Gator alum, but that aside he is definitely the second best wide out in this class fantasy wise, and could pass Crabtree if he stays healthy and is used right. Our TE are a bit different, but honestly I think any of the top 6 are solid picks. This years crop of TE was real solid.
I actually just grabbed Harvin at 1.06 in a dynasty draft (think I asked the Oasis for help with that pick) and I am pretty happy about it. All the press on him out of Minnesota has been great so far.
Very nice in a PPR. Harvin’s injury concerns and attitude problems were overblown IMO, and I see him being a special talent in the NFL. The guy is a physical specimen and has a huge desire to be the best and win at everything. Him and AD on the field at the same time is going to be something special to watch
