A smaller batch of players in the MMR this week compared to last week, but some significant news nonetheless.
Especially for dynasty league owners.
Speaking of, the rookie drafts for both of my dynasty leagues will begin today. I was only in one dynasty league a month ago but inherited another team when it was offered to me by a friend. The team I originally drafted picks 10th in the first round and the team I inherited picks sixth.
Both teams need help at wide receiver, though more so on the inherited team.
The bad thing is that I am not overly convinced or sold on any of this year’s crop of wide receiver. Michael Crabtree, Hakeem Nicks, Percy Harvin and Jeremy Maclin headline the class. Crabtree may be the only sure bet, but he should be gone by the time either of my teams get to draft.
So of the players listed and those not listed (Kenny Britt, Ramses Barden, Brian Robsikie, etc.), anyone got an idea of who I should target?!? Hit the jump for this week’s MMR and leave your wide receiver advice in the comments.
Cornelius Ingram [TE, Eagles]
From Philly.com:
On Wednesday, the rookie suffered a left knee contusion when he collided with safety Rashad Baker during 11 on 11 drills. Ingram was slow to rise and limped to the sideline.
Whew.
Ingram dodged a bullet here. Dynasty owners are ranking him fairly high due to his superb pass-catching skills and Donovan McNabb’s propensity to favor tight ends. But I have a feeling Ingram, though talented no doubt, will battle the injury-prone label throughout his career. Might be a reason to knock him down a notch or two on the cheat sheets.
Tom Brady [QB, Patriots]
From ProFootballTalk:
In his first press conference (that we can recall) since his knee was blown apart by a low hit that would now trigger a penalty and a fine (but likely would still have happened), Pats quarterback Tom Brady said he’ll be wearing a knee brace.
“You don’t even really notice it,” Brady said. “I would rather not wear, but [head trainer] Jim [Whalen] is forcing me to wear it, so I have to listen to him.”
Brady is going to play it safe with a knee brace, which several of his peers use as well. No big deal here, Brady is not an overly mobile quarterback so it will not affect his numbers all that greatly.
And if it keeps him on the field for the entirety of the 2009 season, I doubt fantasy owners are going to care much about a bulky knee brace.
J.J. Arrington [RB, Free agent]
From ProFootballTalk:
Cut by the Broncos on Wednesday, Arrington will undergo microfracture surgery on his injured knee, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post.
Bad string of fortune for Arrington.
He appeared to be the odd man out in Denver upon the arrival of Knowshon Moreno. The Broncos’ have a crowded backfield and Arrington never really lived up to the hype in Arizona. I doubt he would have surpassed any of the backs on the Broncos’ roster this summer had he stayed in Denver. Now Arrington, after surgery, will have a chance to catch on with a more needy team.
The MMR will continue to run every Monday morning as scheduled during the offseason. If you have an injury update or want an update on a certain player, please leave a note in the comments.
