The NFL Draft is upon us, finally!  Each team is hoping the moves they made this offseason coupled with the picks in this weekend’s draft will be more than enough to get to the Super Bowl next year.

From now until Saturday, The Hazean will be highlighting the top players at each of the skill positions in the 2009 NFL Draft class. These are the guys, like Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco and DeSean Jackson last year, who could make all the difference in the world for some lucky NFL team next season. And for fantasy teams, as well.

Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia:  Stafford is projected to be a top 5 pick in the draft.  He is a smart quarterback with a strong arm that makes all the throws.  He will make the Lions fans very happy when they take him with the first pick in the draft.

Mark Sanchez, QB, USC:  Sanchez hasn’t had the most impressive work outs leading up to the draft, but his potential in undeniable.  He will probably be better suited sitting a year or two on a team with a veteran quarterback.  The Broncos just traded away Jay Cutler and could rely on Kyle Orton until Sanchez is ready to start.

Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State:  Freeman is the athlete of the quarterback crop this class.  He has the ability to make throw on the run and scramble when the pocket breaks down.  He isn’t a polished quarterback and will be a project for whoever takes him.  The team that choses Freeman will need to work with his mechanics and teach him the quarterback position.  Freeman will likely go late in the first round.

Pat White, QB, West Virginia:   White is just like Freeman in the fact that he is more of an athlete.  White has proven to many teams he can play quarterback for an NFL team.  He just needs someone to give him a chance.  Someone will take a chance on White and probably try and move him to WR if he doesn’t pan out at quarterback.  Look for him to be drafted on the first day, but not in the first round.
