Figures. As soon as I talk him up and start him in my keeper league, Donnie Avery throws up a stinker. Not that it was entirely his fault — the Cardinals put the clamps on the Rams offense — but I cannot see him staying in the top-5 long term.

But I do have another prediction for you, and I think — barring injury — this guy gets here and stays here: Arizona’s Tim Hightower. Edgerrin James did not see a touch of the football last weekend, which says it all. This is Hightower’s job to lose, and with a cushy schedule he should run away with it.

Due to political races and such the Rookie Report is a day late this week, but as usual it is worth the wait.

I do believe a certain someone separated themselves from the rest of the rookie pack this week. Who, oh who, could it have been?

Honorable Mention- Donnie Avery, WR, Rams - An off week against a porous Cardinals defense dropped Avery out of this weeks top 5. His big play ability should get him back up there in no time.

5. Eddie Royal, WR, Broncos - I knew he would get back into the groove and his seven catches 69 yards and one touchdown performance got him back into the top 5. He also took back the lead as the best rookie receiver.

4. Matt Forte, RB, Bears - Last week Forte was one of those rookie forgotten about due to his bye week. I thought he was starting to hit a wall, but the bye was just what he needed. He rushed for 126 yards and is back in the hunt for this year’s best rookie.

3. Matt Ryan, QB, Falcons - Ryan is proving himself as more than just the best rookie quarterback. He is moving himself up the ladder as one of the better QBs in the league. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up with the No. 1 spot on the list by season’s end.

2. Steve Slaton, RB, Texans - Slaton went up against a tough rush defense, so he decided to work through the air this week. Hauling in eight catches for 56 yards to go along with his 62 rushing yards. He lost his top spot this week, but it’s real close.

1. Chris Johnson, RB, Titans - Johnson’s stats are similar to Slaton’s with 89 rushing yards and 72 receiving yards, but Johnson also found paydirt, scoring the Titans lone touchdown. That is why, for this week, Johnson is numero uno.
