Michael Smith is reporting on ESPN’s SportsCenter that Dallas’ quarterback Tony Romo is out four weeks due to a broken finger on his throwing hand.

The injury comes at a bad time for fantasy owners, particularly those of Romo, Terrell Owens and Jason Witten. Brad Johnson will assume the starting quarterback role for the Cowboys, who likely will rely more on Marion Barber and Felix Jones in the coming weeks.

Romo is expected to miss the next three games against the Rams, Buccaneers and Giants. The Cowboys have a bye in week 10, after which Romo is expected to return in the rematch against the Washington Redskins.

The injury occurred sometime during the Cowboys’ 30 - 24 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the desert yesterday. Speculation is that it happened during the Cowboys’ only series of the overtime period, which saw Dallas receive the kickoff and go three-and-out.

Romo has been lightly criticized as of late for not taking better care of the football. He struggled to hold onto the football yesterday while absorbing hits, was inaccurate with some of his passes and threw a “what were you thinking?” pass that should have been intercepted in the second half.
