Well, what do you know? Three runningbacks top this week’s updated fantasy rookie of the year rankings.

Not sure that would come as a surprise to anyone by season’s end. Runningbacks do tend to touch the ball more than anyone else, so the best bet for fantasy ROY would be a runningback. But there are a few wide receivers and a rookie quarterback that might have something to say about that.

In a week of less than stellar performances by this year’s rookie class, we had some movement in the list. A new guy cracking the top-5 causes another rookie to fall out from grace and we have one man now alone at the top.

Honorable mention: Matt Ryan, QB, Falcons - Ryan threw two touchdown passes against a good Packers defense. He led his team to a 27-24 victory over the Packers in Green Bay. He is starting to get it and could put up even more impressive numbers as the season moves forward.

5. Eddie Royal, WR, Broncos - Royal had an off-night against a tough Buccaneers defense. He is still a top rookie, but he did sustain an injury that could threaten to drop him from our list if he doesn’t bounce back.

4. DeSean Jackson, WR, Eagles - Jackson had an even worse game than Royal as a receiver, but he isn’t fighting an injury. Jackson is a big play waiting to happen and he proved that with a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown. That is why he is ahead of Royal this week.

3. Chris Johnson, RB, Titans - Johnson ended last week as the number one rookie, but he faced the Ravens defense this week and they held him to just 44 rushing yards. I’ll forgive him if he continues to score touchdowns and not just get yardage.

2. Matt Forte, RB, Bears - Forte found the end zone twice in his teams blowout win over the lions. The yardage wasn’t there, but when you score two touchdowns you have no where to go but up.

1. Steve Slaton, RB, Texans - This weeks top rookie is none other than Steve Slaton. He put it on the Colts with 93 yards on 16 carries. He also scored two touchdowns. His teams 0-4 record scares me a bit because some teams tend to give up when they are playing for nothing. Ahman Green also came back this week and stole 12 carries from Slaton and could continue to do so.
