MMRWeek 4 kept one fantasy stud on the bench, and threw a wrench into the plans of other fantasy teams.

Brian Westbrook was withheld from last night’s game against the Bears in Chicago. I think it became pretty obvious that both the Eagles and Westy’s fantasy owners missed him in the lineup when, in the fourth quarter down by four, the Eagles failed to punch in the winning score from within five yards on four downs.

I could almost guarantee that had Westbrook been in the game, the Eagles would have come out of Soldier Field with a thrilling victory. Correll Buckhalter did play well in Westbrook’s absence, but he magnified the importance of Westbrook to the Philly lineup by failing to score the go-ahead touchdown.

Props to the Chicago D for making that stand and holding on for the win.

Carson Palmer [QB, Bengals]

From FanHouse:

But Boomer Esiason, the last good Bengals quarterback before Palmer, thinks that the Bengals are still underplaying what’s happened to Palmer. On CBS’ NFL Today, Esiason pointed to a play against the Giants where he believed the injury occurred, and then said he was worried about Palmer’s long-term prognosis.

Esiason goes on to mention the dreaded “S” word: Surgery.

However, neither the Bengals nor Carson Palmer have mentioned surgery yet. Palmer was designated as the No. 3 quarterback in yesterday’s loss to the Browns, which carries some concern of its own for Palmer’s fantasy owners.

He has been inconsistent and poor so far this season. Palmer’s owners need to be prepared — one way or another — for the worst.

Anquan Boldin [WR, Cardinals]

From ProFootballTalk:

A league source tells us that Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin did not suffer a neck injury in the final minute of Sunday’s 56-35 loss to the Jets.

It was a scary-looking scene for Boldin, but so far the news has been good regarding the collision.

Not sure about his status for next weekend or not, but that should be the last concern on everyone’s mind at this point.

Aaron Rodgers [QB, Packers]

From FanHouse:

However, as soon as Jennings was in the open field, Rodgers ran over to the Packers sideline with his right arm down at his side. It isn’t known if he hurt his arm on that play or not.

Rodgers did indeed injury his shoulder during the loss to Tampa Bay yesterday.

Couple that with the Packers’ recent struggles, and Rodgers is starting to lose a little bit of his early-season confidence.

His shoulder will be worth monitoring this week. If Rodgers does play next weekend, he remains a viable starter in most standard 12-team leagues. But if he and the Pack continue to struggle, he could be headed for your bench soon enough.

The MMR will continue to run every Monday morning as scheduled during the regular season. To stay updated on current NFL injuries later in the week keep an eye on Football Jabber’s injury column, The Bedpan.
