Bye weeks and injury concerns are on the minds of fantasy owners this weekend, with the first scheduled week of idle teams set to wreak havoc on fantasy rosters.

Detroit, Indianapolis, Miami, New England, Seattle and the New York Giants all are idle this weekend across the NFL, meaning owners are scrambling for bye week fill-ins for certain starters on their rosters.

Hopefully, your league’s waiver wire had a few gems that could make good starts this weekend.

Maybe you grabbed Correll Buckhalter off the WW, who may get the start this Sunday against the Bears. Brian Westbrook’s status is up-in-the-air and he could be a game time decision.

Pittsburgh’s Rashard Mendenhall would have made a nice bye week fill-in for Joseph Addai or Brandon Jacobs owners. Or a good spot starter for the Willie Parker owner, who will be without FWP’s services at least this weekend.

Hit the jump for some other good and bad plays this weekend.

Start ‘em

Quarterbacks

  • Carson Palmer v. Browns: The Bengals’ offense showed some signs of life last weekend against the Giants. I think it is safe to start Palmer again after last week’s performance, and he should be able to help Cincinnati pick up its first win this weekend.
  • J.T. O’Sullivan @ Saints: O’Sullivan makes his return to New Orleans as the starter in San Francisco. He has something to prove this weekend, which should not be too hard against a banged up Saints’ secondary.

Runningbacks

  • Fred Taylor v. Texans: Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew got things going on the ground last weekend against the Colts. That success should continue again this weekend against a struggling Texans team.
  • Steven Jackson v. Bills: With Marc Bulger on the bench and Trent Green behind center, I have to believe the instructions are simple for Green: Get the ball to SJax early and often. The Bills are stout on D, but Jackson will get plenty of opportunities.

Wide receivers

  • Lee Evans @ Rams: Evans and the Bills have been a big surprise so far this season. He is developing a nice rapport with starter Trent Edwards, and should be in for a big week against a bad St. Louis defense.
  • Dwayne Bowe v. Broncos: Bowe and Tony Gonzalez continue to be good plays on a bad offense. Having veteran Damon Huard back under center improves the KC passing game, which is good news for Bowe.

Tight end

  • Bo Scaife v. Vikings: Scaife quietly is putting up some good numbers in Tennessee when he gets his hands on the ball. Everyone though Scaife would be that guy last year with Vince Young under center, but he is doing it with Kerry Collins now. He could be a nice bye week fill-in for your idle starter.

Sit ‘em

Quarterbacks

  • Derek Anderson @ Bengals: Anderson has yet to get on track and now Brady Quinn is breathing down his neck. This could be his last weekend as the starter and if things go poorly, Quinn could be inserted as the starter. Not a good time to give Anderson another shot at starting for your fantasy team.
  • Matt Schaub @ Jaguars: Schaub’s slow start is a little surprising. The Texans have plenty of talent in the passing game and it fluorished last season. But so far it has stuttered and been inconsistent. Keep Schaub on the bench until Houston gets some kind of positive momentum.

Runningbacks

  • Willis McGahee @ Steelers: McGahee may be a gametime decision with a bad eye, which is bad news for his owners once again. It seems that the fantasy football gods are frowning up McGahee this season, for some reason. If he plays, I do not expect too much from him against the Steelers.
  • Pierre Thomas v. 49ers: Thomas continues to get exposed as a poor short-yardage back, and the writing may be on the wall for him in that capacity. Deuce McAllister just may get more touches this weekend.

Wide receivers

  • Torry Holt v. Bills: Without Marc Bulger behind center, who knows how this will work out for Holt. He has gotten off to a slow start, but there is no guarantee that Trent Green is the answer for the Rams’ offense.
  • Chad Johnson v. Browns: Johnson continues to struggle while others around him succeed. Last wekeend it was TJ Houshmandzadeh and Antonio Chatman. Johnson needs to put up some dependable numbers before he can crack the starting lineup in a two-wide receiver fantasy league.

Tight end

  • Jerramy Stevens v. Packers: Try not to go overboard on Stevens’ big week last weekend against the Bears. Tampa Bay will not throw the ball that often every week, which makes Stevens a dangerous play this weekend against a good Packers’ defense.
