Sometimes fantasy leagues can be won with a good draft. Other times, fantasy owners need to dredge the waiver wire for a hidden gem. Or you could just wait it out with the guys you drafted, for better or worse.

But it does not have to be that way. In fact, fantasy owners can have a good draft, pick up a good free agent off the waiver wire and still not be satisfied. But what else can they do to satiate the need for utter fantasy dominance?

Enter the lost art of fantasy football trading.

For some reason, lots of fantasy owners avoid trading like the plague. Maybe they got burned by a bad deal in the past, or saw someone else get burned. Maybe they are too stubborn to think players on other teams are not good enough to make the cut.

I know the players you drafted have a great deal of value to your team. And it is hard to let them go after feeling you got a steal in the draft. But I do not think any fantasy owner should forgo the thought of trading. Sometimes, you have to give something to get something, and championships are won by savvy owners who can do all of the following: Draft well, scout well and trade well.

The key to being a good trader is knowing when to buy and when to sell. It is a crapshoot, but if you are smart and do your homework, trading could lead you to the promised land.

That is where we come in with our newest weekly feature. Here we will discuss players you should try to acquire via trade, and players who need to be shipped out for maximum value.

Sell High

Michael Turner [RB, Falcons]: Turner blew up to lead all runningbacks in fantasy scoring week one. But he did it against the Lions’ defense, which does not really surprise anyone. He looked great and it would be hard to trade him as an owner, but if you can get a preseason top-6 back for him, I would do it.

Willie Parker [RB, Steelers]: Parker scored three times in week one, which just about surpasses everything he did last year. I think last weekend was the exception for Parker, and doubt his owners will see any kind of production like that from him again this season. Get what you can while you can.

Selvin Young [RB, Broncos]: Oh boy. Mike Shanahan really knows how to use his backs, and how to screw fantasy owners. Luckily, Young scored a touchdown in garbage time to save some value. Trade him now, otherwise be prepared for Shanahanigans all season.

Buy Low

Marques Colston [WR, Saints]: Colston will miss the next four-to-six weeks after having surgery to repair ligaments in his thumb, which is bad news for his fantasy owners. He likely was drafted as a WR1, but panicky Colston owners could ship him out now after a lackluster week one and lengthy recovery time. Try to get him for cheap if you can, as he should not miss a beat once he gets back in the starting lineup.

Braylon Edwards [WR, Browns]: Edwards almost dropped as many passes on Sunday as he did all last year, which is not good considering he dropped a lot of passes last season. Owners who drafted him high might be a little worried about his lack of production last Sunday, but now is not the time to give up on the guy. See if you can acquire him on the cheap.

Carson Palmer [QB, Bengals]: Palmer and the Bengals certainly cannot be this bad, can they? I am going to say no. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Chad Johnson, Chris Perry and Ben Utecht are going to come around, and when they do Palmer’s numbers will rebound. He had a sickly week one and could be had for very little.
