I picked up a rumor floating around the internet last Friday that suggested Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady could miss as many as the first four weeks of the regular season.

I realize it was just a rumor, but it makes for good fantasy football fodder, particularly when it comes to taunting and prodding the Brady owner in your league. I mean, how good would the Brady owners’ team be without the guy? Yeah, not very good at all considering he had to take Brady in the first round this year.

However, I somewhat subscribe to the old adage “where there’s smoke, there’s fire”, and there continues to be whispers and rumblings out of New England regarding the health of Brady. Today, ProFootballTalk is reporting that Brady has or had a broken bone in his foot very recently, as evidenced by an August MRI on said foot.

Like I said before, we will not know anything — zero, zilch, nada — about Brady’s status until gametime on Sunday. There is no way Bill Belichick will make any significant, unambigious statements at any point in time, especially regarding an injury to the Patriots’ leader.

Maybe I should have thought twice about including Brady on The Hazean’s Preseason All-Fantasy First Team.

UPDATE: Brady was seen at Patriots’ practice today doing some light jogging and other footwork.
