While most of New Orleans and the rest of the northern Gulf Coast will be in rehab tomorrow and the rest of the week, several NFL stars are currently in rehab.
And with the regular season starting this week, fantasy owners need to make some roster decisions by Thursday night. As of right now, however, no one from the Giants - Redskins game is in the rehab.
Check back on Thursday for a special edition of our Start & Sit column for that guy, which will include any pertinent injury updates.
Remember, also, to check over at Football Jabber at week’s end for his injury column, The Bedpan. There you should find more injury news that may affect your start/sit decisions for week one.

Cadillac Williams [RB, Buccaneers]:
From ProFootballTalk:
To no surprise, the Buccaneers assigned running back Cadillac Williams to the reserve/PUP list on Tuesday.
The move causes Williams not to take up a roster spot, and it makes him ineligible for at least the first six weeks of the regular season.
Not an unexpected move by any means. All the Williams news leading up to this point has been positive, but I do not think anyone would tell you that he is ready for game-action at this point.
However, it is encouraging for this season that he avoided being placed on injured reserve. He could be ready by the seventh week of the regular season, and it will be interesting to see what Tampa Bay does with Cadillac at that point.
Wes Welker [WR, Patriots]:
From the Boston Globe:
Wide receiver Wes Welker, who was knocked out of the Patriots’ third preseason game with a rib injury, returned to practice today.
Welker was present for the media-access portion of the practice, which included stretching, agility drills and some light pass-catching.
Welker should be good-to-go for this weekend’s game.
As with any injury news from the Patriots, Welker’s status has been shrouded in a little bit of mystery. Bill Belichick likes to manipulate injury reports, so fantasy owners will need to be patient but vigilant when it comes to Welker’s status for this weekend.
Braylon Edwards [WR, Browns]:
From ProFootballTalk:
Browns receiver Braylon Edwards says that he’s back to 100 percent after an incident of horseplay with Donte’ Stallworth put a gash in Edwards’ foot earlier this month.
Good to hear that Edwards is ready for practice.
The Browns wanted to give his foot wound enough time to heal so that it does not get reinjured, and it appears that they are comfotable with his progress. Edwards’ production this week now may be more dependant on the health of his quarterback, Derek Anderson.
Derek Anderson [QB, Browns]:
From ESPN:
Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson will start next Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, a source told ESPN.com Sunday night.
“Barring any unforeseen event, [Anderson] is going to play,” the source said.
That is encouraging news for Anderson’s fantasy owners and fans of the Cleveland Browns.
This story warrants monitoring throughout the week, as Anderson’s status could change at any time. It would be a confirmation of this report if Anderson is able to practice at some point this week. Stay tuned.
Sam Hurd [WR, Cowboys]:
From MySanAntonio.com:
A team spokesman said Friday an MRI confirmed Brackenridge alum Sam Hurd has a high left ankle sprain and will miss the season opener in Cleveland on Sept. 7.
Hurd, who suffered the injury during the opening series of the Cowboys’16-10 win over Minnesota on Thursday, joins Miles Austin (knee) and Isaiah Stanback (shoulder) on the sidelines.
Not a huge deal for fantasy footballers in redraft league, as Hurd likely is not on anyone’s roster. But he is a favorite in dynasty leagues and maybe a few deep keeper leagues, but this news dampens his fantasy value at this point.
He does, however, play on a team with questionable wide receiver depth. If the Cowboys do not add a wideout via trade or free agency, Hurd could play an important role in this offense once he returns to action.
The MMR will continue to run every Monday morning as scheduled during the regular season. To stay updated on current NFL injuries later in the week keep an eye on Football Jabber’s injury column, The Bedpan.

The fact that the Patriots originally kept 8 WRs and dropped it to 7 to pick up help on the waiver wire is cause for concern for Welker. Belichick doesn’t say much, so sometimes you need to read between the lines.
