Blaine is back to update you guys on some things happening in the AFC.

This is the last week for these training camp updates because, well, the regular season starts next week! How friggin’ cool does that sound?!? We will be rolling out some of our regular season coverage next week in anticipation of the season, including our popular Start & Sit column. Stay tuned, tell your friends, and get your fantasy teams ready!

We are almost there!!!  Only nine more days until the regular season kicks off on Thursday night, Sept. 4th.

So without futher ado, here is some news on teams around the AFC.

Cincinnati Bengals: Even though Chad Johnson says that he will be able to play with his torn labrum, the Bengals are looking for some reassurance in that position, and there are reports that they might be looking to trade Rudi Johnson for some more receiver talent.  Avoid Rudi at all costs in drafts as his future is in extreme doubt.

Kansas City Chiefs: Recently cut Jay Feely has signed on for a one year contract with the Chiefs.  If the Chiefs stall out on drives, the accurate leg of Feely could rack up a decent amount of fantasy points this season.

Miami Dolphins: Lots of news out of the MIA.  Chad Pennington has officially been named the starting QB for week 1.  This announcement should move Ted Ginn Jr. up a few draft spots as the uncertainity of Miami’s QB is now clear.  Also, it appears that Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown have both been splitting time with the first team during practice.  This just confirms the fact that Miami will institute a RBBC.  Even still, I like Brown to become more prominent in the offense in the second half of the season.  His main hurdle is getting over the mental block of being able to trust his knee.

Cleveland Browns: Eight days after suffering a concussion, Derek Anderson still hasn’t been cleared by doctors to practice.  He still has a solid week-and-a-half before the regular season, and hopefully he’ll be ready to go in week 1.  If he is not able to play, Brady Quinn would get the start.

San Diego Chargers: After being told by three doctors that he needed surgery on his torn LCL and PCL, Shawn Merriman was in Miami getting a final opinion on whether or not he would need season ending surgery to repair his knee.  Assuming he went with the surgery, he would have an oppurtunity to play in the 2009 season.
