So I guess everyone heard by now that Gene Upshaw has passed away. RIP Gene. I know there were people calling for his job this offseason, but I do not think anyone wanted to see him go out this week. Our prayers are with his family.
Marc is back today to bring you a roundup of the best news coming out of training camps this week. Enjoy.
I was gonna stick with staying in divisions for updates, but a few things have happened this week that I feel I need to update.
Cardinals: Wide receiver Anquan Boldin is still not happy with his contract situation and is demanding a trade. He feels if they aren’t going to give him the money he deserves then he wants to play for a team that will. I have to agree that he deserves more than $4 million a year and somebody will give it to him.
Rams: The Rams have decided to give in and give running back Steven Jackson a fat new contract. Jackson will report to camp on Thursday and with the contract situation over he should put up stellar numbers this season if he remains healthy.
Eagles: The Eagles already weak receiving corp took a huge hit Wednesday when we learned that starting wide receiver Kevin Curtis will be out for “a while” according to coach Andy Reid. The exact return date isn’t known yet, but he is expected to return sometime this season. Greg Lewis and Hank Baskett are expected to split time as the second receiver behind Reggie Brown while Curtis is injured.
Seahawks: Matt Hasselbeck might miss his second preseason game this coming monday with a stiff back. Hasselbeck had returned to practice Monday, but left Tuesday’s practice early. Coach Holmgren doesn’t think this is serious, and expects him ready to go against the Bills in week 1.
