Today’s training camp update, brought to you by Blaine, almost is an extension of yesterday’s Monday Morning Rehab.

Several NFL stars, including Chad Johnson, Tom Brady and Derek Anderson, are suffering from new injuries that could affect their playing time the rest of preseason.

But what we all need to know is whether or not these injuries will affect these players for the regular season. Blaine tries to find some answers with this week’s AFC training camp rundown.

Marc’s Rookie Report, which usually runs in this spot on Tuesdays, will be a day late this week. Make sure to check back tomorrow for that, and his NFC training camp update on Thursday.

New England Patriots: Tom Brady was on a radio talk show on Monday stating that he hasn’t been playing the preseason games because of an injured foot.  Although it is the same leg that he injured last year late in the season, Brady insists that it is a different injury.  Either way, Brady might not play the third preseason game, which is typically the game where the starters play for most of the time.  In other Pats news, New England is trying to set the record for oldest average age of their defense.  They moved one step closer toward that goal by signing 36 year old safety, John Lynch.

Cincinnati Bengals: Chad Johnson was injured in Sunday nights preseason game against Detroit where he suffered a sprained shoulder.  Now Coach Marvin Lewis and Johnson himself have said that he will be fine for the season opener, but even so, the Bengals have signed Chris Henry to a one year contract (pending him passing the physical).  Even if Johnson won’t be able to go the first week of the season, this signing of Henry doesn’t help the Bengals because he is suspended for the first 4 games of the season.  Maybe Johnson’s injury is more serious than expected, or maybe the Bengals just like hiring criminals.

Houston Texans: I was expecting Ahman Green to go down in about week 3 of the season with some type of injury that would sideline him for most of the season.  Little did I realize that ole Ahman would one up me by going down in just the second week of preseason with a injured groin.  Apparently the Texans have wised up to his shennagins and could quite possibly release him before the start of the season.  The oft injured Chris Brown would be the heir to the throne if this is the case.  Also, Andre “Big Play” Johnson has resumed practicing with the team and Coach Kubiak is hoping that he will see the field for the Texans third preseason game.

Cleveland Browns: Last night, Browns starter Derek Anderson sufferred a concussion when his head boucned off of the turf as Osi Umenyiora fell on him during a sack.  Although he shouldn’t miss any regular season time, I’d monitor this carefully as concussion can sometimes have lingering affects.
