MMRYou know how hard it is to update the blog on stolen internet?

Really freakin’ hard.

The internet guy does not come until Friday and the wife’s laptop went silent yesterday, so I went to Wal-Mart to pick up a wireless card today and am currently stealing the neighbor’s internet.

And it sucks.

So I anxiously wait for Friday, when my normal internet dependency can resume in full force. In the meantime, however, it is good to be settled — finally — after a long, trying move from the Dirty South to almost Canada. And it is great to be back running things here at The Hazean … hope you guys enjoyed Blaine’s coverage last week.

Hit the jump for this week’s MMR.

Antonio Gates [TE, Chargers]

From RotoWorld:

I’m not sure how to react to the most recent article on Antonio Gates’ toe. On one hand, he’s still feeling a “high level of discomfort.” He says the pain is tolerable, but it’s there. On the other hand, he’s running routes again. The local beat writer says Gates looked close to “All Pro” form. Everyone plays in some sort of pain, so how close is Gates to being ready to go?

Gates continues to avoid being placed on the PUP list, but the anxiety he is causing fantasy owners is palpable at this point.

Hopefully news about Gates’ rehab continues to be positive. Earlier reports indicated he would not be ready until the third week or later of the 2008 season, but it seems as if his return date has been moving up ever so slightly the last few weeks.

Gates continues to be one of the top two or three tight ends taken in fantasy drafts, but Jason Witten clearly has passed him as the top tight end heading into the season.

Vince Young [QB, Titans]

From FanHouse:

My quad, man, it was bad. Every week you get it better, then you go out and play and hurt it again. The quad would get weak. I was taking those pills for the pain. I was running around trying to make plays when it’s not there. The quad is definitely back where it needs to be although I still have a little hole in there.

VY has been less than stellar so far in preseason, and we all know how important his legs are to his fantasy success, if there is to be any this season.

He has less than average wide receivers but a decent tight end and what looks to be a fantastic running game. Add in the Titans’ stellar defense and this team has all the makings of a run-first, rely-on-the-defense type approach.

Which means VY and the passing game should struggle again this year.

Tarvaris Jackson [QB, Vikings]

From ProFootballTalk:

Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL in his knee, a league source tells us.

Yikes. Jackson was having a good month, meaning Brett Favre did not come to town and immediately unseat him.

He looked OK in preseason action, but nothing worth owning in redraft leagues. Certainly not worth owning now, as this injury could hamper his running ability.

Braylon Edwards [WR, Browns]

From FanHouse:

Braylon Edwards will miss Monday’s game and probably next Saturday’s game vs. the Lions with a lacerated foot.

At first he only was supposed to miss a few practices, but now a few preseason games. Things that make you go hmmmmm.

I still do not think this is too serious, but I do hope he and teammate Donte Stallworth have learned their lesson. Edwards’ feet — and the rest of his body — are way too valuable and important to the success of the Browns in 2008.

Peyton Manning [QB, Colts]

From ProFootballTalk:

And coach Tony Dungy now says that, even though Manning has yet to be cleared to practice, he’ll be ready for the regular season opener, which is only 23 days away.

Good news for Manning and his owners.

I do not think many are worried about his ability to be ready for the season opener. Manning has been through enough seasons now and been more than consistent during his time behind center for Colts.

Fantasy owners have not lost much confidence in the signal caller, but if some in your league have and he drops down the draft board a little ways, I would not hesitate in taking him at the right spot.
