Marc is back with this week’s training camp update. Unfortunately, my scheduled is all f’ed up, which is why this is coming a day late. Usually, we try to roll the AFC updates on Tuesday and the NFC updates on Thursday, but you will have to deal with this coming on Friday, mmmkay?

This week we are traveling down south to check on the NFC South division.

Carolina Panthers: Panthers’ starting runningback DeAngelo Williams looked good in the preseason opener.  He had 55 yards and 2 touchdowns on only nine carries.  Backup runningback Jonathan Stewart is still nursing a toe injury, so Williams is taking advantage of his opportunity as the undisputed starter.

New Orleans Saints:  Surging rookie Adrian Arrington has missed the last few practices due to a toe injury.  He looked good in his preseason action with two catches for 46 yards against the Cardinals.  Keep an eye on his progress because if this injury stays around the Saints could place him on IR for the season with all the depth they have at wide receiver.

Atlanta Falcons:  Talk of the town is how well Matt Ryan played in his debut, throwing for 113 yards and a touchdown and completing 9-of-15 pass attempts.  His progress in the Falcons offense is impressive for a rookie and could earn opening day starter rights.

Tampa Bay Bucaneers:  The Bucs top two runningbacks in Earnest Graham and Warrick Dunn did not play in the first preseason game, but 3rd-stringer Michael Bennett made a case to make this team.  He showed abilities he used to have in Minnessota, finishing with 74 yards and a touchdown.
