Did the Saints land another steal in the 7th round of the 2008 NFL Draft in Adrian Arrington?

The wide receiver from Michigan started training camp at the bottom of the depth chart. Rightfully so, since he is only a rookie. But he has made several nice plays in camp so far, including a diving catch for a score on the first day of camp and later outrunning Jason David — not saying much — for a long score from Drew Brees.

The steep climb up the depth chart has already started this past weekend for Arrington by his on-field play, but also by chance. Saints’ speedster Devery Henderson pulled up lame on a deep route. It has been reported as a hamstring injury by many sources.

With Henderson missing time, Arrington could use this time to work more with the first- and second-string offenses to show the coaches what he can do.

Coach Sean Payton has already showed he isn’t scared to start a rookie wide receiver who deserves to start (see: Marques Colston). Arrington just needs to outwork Lance Moore, Terrance Copper, Devery Henderson, Robert Meachem and David Patten. I don’t know about you, but none of those names would scare me. His camp has been impressive so far and could get better with the extra time.

The experienced fantasy players that were paying attention to the offseason and the way Colston was playing got rewarded tremendously by his rookie output. Arrington has the chance to do the same. Those in the keeper and dynasty leagues might not be disappointed by using a pick on Arrington. Redraft leagues should only draft him if he is expected to be in the top three on the depth chart.
