Marc’s already busted out the sleepers at quarterback and runningback, so you knew this one was coming. Not sure what he has in store for you next week (tight ends? kickers? defenes?!?), so we all will have to stay tuned to find out.

In the meantime, enjoy this week’s sleeper class of wide receivers.  I am off to the beach, might blog if I can pick up some wireless. Otherwise, see you fools next Thursday.

Once you get past the few elite receivers, they all look the same. The middle of the road receivers are rarely consistent and easy to come by.

After the jump is a list of late round or even waiver wire pickups at receiver that could become a decent start for a great price.

1. Robert Meachem/David Patten, WR, Saints: It shouldn’t be too hard to improve on his rookie season. Meachem was the only first round draft pick to never see the field. Meachem has been working hard this off season with fellow receiver David Patten. Meachem impressed his coaches in mini-camps and could surpass teammate Patten. Whichever one wins the starting job during training camp will see the ball plenty with most of the attention of the defense geared towards stopping Marques Colston, Reggie Bush and the newly acquired Jeremy Shockey.

2. Nate Burleson, WR, Seahawks: After scoring nine touchdowns last season, Burleson might not be much of a sleeper. He should be at least the second option on a team that loves to throw the ball even in the red-zone. Matt Hasselbeck seems to like throwing touchdowns to Burleson and I don’t think that will change this year. A slight increase in touchdowns and yardage isn’t out of the question.

3. Bryant Johnson, WR, 49ers: Johnson showed flashes of big play ability in Arizona, but was never consistent enough to put up big numbers. He also played behind stars Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. Johnson should be one of the starters in Mike Martz offense. Since we all know how much Martz likes the throw the ball I like Johnson to put up big numbers this season, maybe even enough to make him your second option at receiver.

4. Devin Hester, WR, Bears: If the Bears can get him into camp by giving Hester the contract he deserves, he could be explosive on offense. I don’t believe any cornerback in the NFL can keep up with him. It’s not like the Bears have a plethora of receivers. If Hester can get to camp and learn the offense he should see the field on a regular basis.

5. Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Colts: Marvin Harrison is getting old and somebody needs to get benefit. I think Gonzalez will be the beneficiary. Gonzalez was impressive in the Colts offense during his rookie season. He finished the season with 576 yards and three touchdowns. He should put up better numbers and would make a good backup and could be even better if Wayne or Harrison get injured.
