We petitioned the masses on Monday for submissions for our latest feature, Rate-a-Roster, and we actually received an entry!

One lucky reader gets his wish today as Marc and I break down his fantasy football roster. The reader — Greg — also sent in another roster that we will take a look at next week.

Greg is blazing the trail for the rest of you guys. Do not let him go it alone. If you have a team that needs some guidance, or you just want to get some praise for your amazing drafting/trading/waivering skills, shoot us an email. Make sure to include your roster (duh), scoring settings, starting lineup settings and any other pertinent information.

Hi. I was hoping you could rate my roster. It’s just a $25 league on Payday Sports. 12 teams, 18 rounds. Thank you for your time!

[Ed. note: I cut out the scoring options and starting lineup settings to shorten the post, but we took it into consideration.]

Greg’s Roster:
QB: Tom Brady
RB: Kenny Watson
RB: Rudi Johnson
RB: Maurice Morris
RB: Willis McGahee
RB: Rashard Mendenhall
RB: Ray Rice
RB: Kevin Smith
WR: Sidney Rice
WR: Lee Evans
WR: Bryant Johnson
WR: T.J. Houshmandzadeh
WR: Drew Bennett
WR: Derrick Mason
TE: Ben Utecht
TE: Dallas Clark
K: Robbie Gould
DST: Chicago Bears

Marc’s take: I like your team especially for the playoffs.  You have veteran players like Willis McGahee and T.J. Houshmandzadeh to lead your team until your young players take over.  I personally think McGahee will be a star this year with Cam Cameron as his offensive coordinator.  If your younger players like Rashard Mendenhall and Kevin Smith break through like they should, then your team could be devastating in the playoffs.  You also have “Mr. Second Half” in Lee Evans.  Somehow grabbing another veteran running back and a more consistent wide receiver are some changes I would try and make.  This would be a great team in a dynasty league.

Michael’s take: It would be nice to know if this was a dynasty, keeper or redraft league. Nonetheless, let’s start at the top: With Tom Brady as your starting quarterback, I like the decision to have him as the only quarterback on your roster. Of course, you will need some help during the bye week, but you should be able to find someone on the wire.

I figure your starting runningbacks will be Willis McGahee and Rudi Johnson. Not the best duo, but that is the price you pay to get Brady this year. The depth at runningback, with guys like Kenny Watson, Rashard Mendenhall and Kevin Smith, is a gamble, but a good one. Those guys could end up with big-time roles this season, especially Smith. I like the Ray Rice pick to give you some security for McGahee.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh will be an every-week starter and the No. 1 guy on the team. Looks like you will have a platoon behind him, with Bryant Johnson, Lee Evans and Sidney Rice being the best three options in my opinion. I would keep my eyes on the waiver wire early in the season for a gem at receiver, because you may need to take a gamble on someone to shore up the receiving corps behind Housh.

Dallas Clark is a fine starting tight end who should see plenty of action again this year. Not sure about the decision to grab Ben Utecht, however, and I might dump him for a waiver wire pickup. No need to have a backup tight end for Clark until the Colts’ bye week.

Kickers are kickers and Gould is a good one. The weather in Chicago in the late fall and early winter months kind of worries me, but he can get the job done with the best of them. I look for Chicago’s defense to have a bounce-back year, allowing fewer points and creating more turnovers, so I think they are a good one to rely on week-in and week-out for fantasy.

Good luck Greg!
