Gonna surprise you with this one: This story is not all about Brett Favre.

No, contrary to popular belief, there is other news out of Green Bay these days that does not involve Favre. Though I guess you can make the argument that anthing related to Green Bay or the Packers, or the state of Wisconsin for that matter, has something to do with Favre. And we are mentioning Favre, which kind of brings him into to this.

But enough Favre already!

The news out of Packer-land not related to Favre is that runningback Ryan Grant plans to hold out if he does not receive a new contract before camp.

The 25-year-old Grant had his best NFL season to date last year with the Packers, and really shored up the running game for Green Bay down the stretch. One could argue that his ability to move the ball on the ground helped Favre have one of his best season’s to date, but since this post is not about Favre I will leave it at that.

Grant, however, is only slated to make a measly $370,000 this season, despite posting the following numbers last year: 188 carries for 956 yards (5.1 yards-per-carry) and eight rushing touchdowns. All that for a dude who only started seven games!

I would expect the Packers to get something done on the Grant front before training camp, although it appears both sides are not too close. Add in the Favre saga and media attention and the fact that the Green Bay management is not the easiest bunch to deal with these days, and you got yourself a pickle.

Grant should at least get the kind of money Tampa Bay showed Earnest Graham this offseason (Four years, $11.05 million). Nothing out-of-the-question, but more bank than the kid is set to make as it stands.

Now if only Favre would get out of the spotlight and the GM’s hair and let Grant get his money!
