My first dynasty draft now has moved past six rounds, and it is time to hand out some very early grades on all the participating teams.
But first, here is an update on how my team — Massive Hits — looks so far.
You guys already know I grabbed runningbacks with my first two picks. Clinton Portis and Reggie Bush should be able to score well in this point-per-reception (PPR) league and give me a nice foundation. In rounds 3 and 4 I grabbed two starting wide receivers in Terrell Owens and Anquan Boldin.
Being that Owens is a little on the old wise side, I decided to grab a young up-and-comer to fill the No. 3 WR starting spot on my team. Luckily, the guy I wanted fell to me in the 5th round — Kansas City’s Dwayne Bowe.
I know there are a lot of questions the Chiefs’ offense needs to answer this season, but Bowe, an LSU product, had a solid rookie campaign and should continue to mature into a solid No. 1 receiver role. My only concern is the way another former LSU receiver –Tampa Bay’s Michael Clayton — burned out after his first NFL season, which was his best to date.
I decided my next move would be to fill the starting quarterback position, and I did so at the right time. I wanted to get Denver’s Jay Cutler and, again, luck had it that the guy I wanted made it to me in the 6th round. So I grabbed my franchise quarterback and, shortly afterward, a run on quarterbacks began.
So after 6 rounds, my roster looks like this:
QB: Jay Cutler
RB: Clinton Portis
RB: Reggie Bush
WR: Terrell Owens
WR: Anquan Boldin
WR: Dwayne Bowe
With six rounds now in the books, the squads of all the owners are starting to take shape. I decided to poll the owners in an effort to determine whose draft was going the best so far. The owners were asked to rank the teams on a scale of 1 (bad) to 5 (good). Each owner voted on all the teams but his own, and the results of the poll are below:
Wow! So far so good for my team, Massive Hits.
The draft now has moved into the 10th round, and I have grabbed the following players to supplement my roster: TE Chris Cooley, RB Ahmad Bradshaw, RB Tatum Bell and WR Bryant Johnson.
I am happy with Cooley and Johnson, but unsure about Bradshaw and Bell. I felt the need to add some depth at runningback after the Cooley pick, and the guy I wanted to backup Portis and Bush — Fred Taylor — was swiped before my 8th-round pick. Hopefully Bradshaw and Bell will pan out.
How do y’all think I am doing so far? And what should I look for as we move into the early teen rounds?
