Last week, Haze contributor Marc introduced you to five rookies — Darren McFadden, Matt Forte, Matt Ryan, Jonathan Stewart and Rashard Mendenhall — in the first edition of his weekly column, the Rookie report.
There was some clamoring in the comments for more rookie updates, particularly of one guy who may have the inside track to a starting gig in 2008. So the rookie report is back again this week with five more rookies for you to meet. Included is a little write-up on each guy and a redraft prediction.
If you are in keeper or dynasty leagues, throw these predictions out the window. Rookies like these guys are at a premium in such leagues. If you feel a run coming on and you really want one of these guys (or the five from last week), be prepared to jump in with the swift-moving tide.

1. Kevin Smith, RB, Lions: Per our readers request … I felt Smith might be a product of good workout numbers, but you cannot argue with his chance of starting. Since his main competition is Tatum Bell, I would say he has a great chance at becoming the starter in Detroit. Smith definitely is worth looking at in the middle rounds, but you would need to handcuff him to Tatum Bell or it could be a wasted pick if he never sees the field.
Redraft Prediction: 8th round
2. Joe Flacco, QB, Ravens: Flacco is a guy the Ravens loved and moved into the middle of the first round to make sure they drafted him. He has a good arm and could become the starter sometime during the season, but I do not see any value in drafting him in a redraft league. In keeper and dynasty leagues he could be worth looking at, but only with a late round pick.
Redraft Prediction: Not drafted
3. Chad Henne, QB, Dolphins: Henne, drafted in the second round, is coming to a team with no quarterback and Bill Parcells running things. Watch what he does in training camp, and if he wins the job he could be worth a late-round pick. An 8-8 season is not going to be out of the question for the Dolphins when you have Parcells at the helm.
Redraft Prediction: Last-round pick
4. Devin Thomas, WR, Redskins: Coming into the draft he was considered to be the most consistent wide receiver. He is coming to a team that lacks quality receivers and playmakers. The Redskins’ incumbent starters are both under six-foot tall, so if Thomas can impress he might be able to become a starter, which would move Antwaan Randle El back to the slot. Jason Campbell continues to mature and a taller receiver like Thomas could help Campbell’s rate of maturity.
Redraft Prediction: Late rounds
5. Adrian Arrington, WR, Saints: Did the Saints find another 7th-round gem at the wide receiver position? Arrington impressed all the coaches during the rookie minicamp with his ability to catch the ball in traffic and use his body for positioning. Head coach Sean Payton has proven he is not afraid to start the best players even if they are rookie: see Marques Colston, for example. Arrington could be a decent pickup in dynasty or keeper leagues, but probably off-the-radar — for now — in redraft leagues.
Redraft Prediction: Not drafted
